2. CMS Tape/File Families (FF) proposal
Split FF by era, primary dataset and tier (RAW,RECO and AOD)
Due to limitations in Castor Tape Families is ok at site
Initial conditions into the tape family proposal
The RECO and the RAW should be on separate tape families.
This improves the efficiency for re-reconstruction, which should
only need to read the RAW.
More importantly it allows recycling of the tapes for RECO
The RECO is bigger than expected and we're going to want
to delete the first Reco at some point.
Primary Datasets should be in separate tape families
skimming and reprocessing should be done by primary dataset
Make staging easier if a Tier-1 asked to Re-construct a dataset
AOD should be on disk and on tape for recovering them
In case of hardware failures

3. General comments
The proposal calls for a separate family per primary dataset
This is because of the reprocessing will be done per primary dataset
The primary dataset names and the acquisition period names
need to be known before files arrive to T1s
For processing versions no make sense separate families. The chronological separation of version will work to keep things separate
For AOD, keep all in the same tape family: example /store/data/Spring_09/Electrons/V232/AOD and store/data/Spring_09/Muons/V232/AOD
