This course is a 18 week college class designed to prepare you for the College Board exam this Spring. As per the syllabus, approximately every 2 weeks we will be covering a unit. The exam is a two-part test. Multiple Choice (60 questions, 45 minutes, 50% of grade) FRQ’s (4 questions, 100 minutes, 50% of grade) Subject areas tested by %: U.S. Constitution (5-15% of questions) Political beliefs & behavior (10-20% of questions) Political parties, interest groups, mass media (10-20%) Institutions (35-45% of questions) Public policy (5-15% of questions) Civil rights and liberties (5-15% of questions)

5 = Extremely Qualified (All colleges accept) 4 = Well Qualified (Most Accept) 3 = Qualified (Many accept, some don’t) 2 = Possibly Qualified (Very few accept) 1 = Not Qualified (No college accepts)

Fiscal policy and monetary policy are two tools used by the federal government to influence the United States economy. The executive and legislative branches share the responsibility of setting fiscal policy. The Federal Reserve Board has the primary role of setting monetary policy. (a) Define fiscal policy. (b) Describe one significant way the executive branch influences fiscal policy. (c) Describe one significant way the legislative branch influences fiscal policy. (d) Define monetary policy. (e) Explain two reasons why the Federal Reserve Board is given independence in establishing monetary policy.

Fiscal policy and monetary policy are two tools used by the federal government to influence the United States economy. The executive and legislative branches share the responsibility of setting fiscal policy. The Federal Reserve Board has the primary role of setting monetary policy. (a) Define fiscal policy. Fiscal policy is the federal government’s attempt to regulate the U.S. economy via taxing income and spending money through the federal budget.
