9 Your Comments: What You Learned
Strategies to prepare students for SBAC Interesting discussion about writing process – slow starts, thinking during non-writing time. Students should understand performance tasks as genres (with specific features, requirements) Great info about testing. I never get to go to training about it because I teach 1st. I learned a lot and it gave me an idea of all the skills that go into the type of writing my students will need to do some day.

10 Your Comments: What You Learned
About the importance of the SBAC tests. I examined the rubric & realized that it will be helpful to introduce the language of the prompt to my students. SBAC materials – always worthwhile to review Inquiry time – great discussion about grading, avoiding the bottleneck, and criteria. Time to work with our inquiry group – reading and research was helpful!

11 Your Comments: What You Learned
That Inquiry groups could keep us busy over the next year – or more! I learned that I’m lacking in skills in negotiating a simple cup of coffee. The SBAC discussion very informative; history coming up next year.

12 What Surprised You? What Questions Do You Have?
I’ve been reflective about over-teaching a text vs. letting students take from it what’s important to them. The SBAC rubrics still seem to have a lot of subjectivity. I learned that every writer goes through a bad day where nothing seems to sound right. Even awesome writers that make it look easy have bad days.

13 What Surprised You? What Questions Do You Have?
How vague the rubrics are! Ughh. Aja’s Author’s chair reading – I have no words. Only tears of laughter. I’m surprised at how fired up I am for my inquiry group topic. It’s real – something I need to make my teaching life better, and I think we’ll all take something different out of it. That’s OK!

14 What Do You Want To Know More About?
