8 Council International Committee
Tom Johnson, IR for Heart of America Council Top 10- tips: How to build a robust International Scouting Council Committee: 1.Learn & Accept you can’t do it alone. 2. Always someone better than you. 3. Allow other Adult Scouters room to breathe and grow, let me lead a subcommittee or a key project. 4. Be TOUGH on Expectations; raise the bar- ever notice how thorough and competent Wood Badge Staffing is?  Start a culture just as like Woodbadge, and other amped up Scouting committees; with high expectations. Your in, or your out.  5. From Day One, everyone on the Committee has an assigned task, or role. Other wise you lose them. TELL them what it is, or have them pick it. They can always rotate later. 6. Teach them, coach them, use your International Scouting Seminar Book- as THEIR Training tool. 7. Stay within bounds.  8. Aim for 1,2 members from each district. 9. Charge the Subcommitee Chairs, from day one, to work on grooming their replacement. Build a culture of continuity, no one likes or grow with dynasties; certainly not with fresh ideas. 10. Set goals, Recognize their hard work, create bonds with International Scouting Neckers, patches, and nametags- encourage the full members of your committee to the reward of the International Scouting Seminar, as secondary slot positions open up. 11. Have Fun!  Organization To whom we circle back & feedback through: Council Program Committee; High Adventure committee; Tri-annual One on One IR/Chair luncheon with SE; Annual Board meetings Report -Ex -rolling of Woodbadge Staffers Where do I find new members? -International College Students- studying abroad here in KC area -Dynamic Venturing Advisors -Young Assist Cub Masters -Sharp, young year old Scouters- Eagles, Staffers, OA Lodge officers, Venturing Females  Our Branding- best form of communication- your uniform. Our own coveted 1 only HOAC necker, nametag, and pocket patch. Meeting tips 1.Start on time; end on time. 2.No brevity for lateness. 3.Pre-publish the agenda with their Name on it: showing the expectation of the subcommittee report time slot. 4.Don't let them flow; stick hard on the subject at hand. Be firm to the agenda. 5.Create a 15 minute mid meeting break-Let the fellowship huddle inside that 15. 6. Remember it's not a "look where I've been" bragging or a What's wrong with Scouting session. We're here for the Scouts; not us. Structure How we are organized: 4 sub committees 1. Program: 3-5 members since it’s the largest load (JOTA/JOTI Committee- shared with council radio committee) 2. PR & Communications: 2-3 members 3. Support Committee: logistics and supplies, equipment 4.Exchange Committee: inbound and outbound staffers; home hosting; sister city committee And to round out the group are a Chairperson, a secretary, and an International Scouting Warehouse location.    We hold four to five annual meetings: January, March, May, August, October Each meeting -2 hours, with break (Bagels, Donuts, Coffee, Juice and Milk)
