The systematic collection of information about student learning using the time, knowledge, expertise, and resources available, in order to inform decision about how to improve learning
Is the process of identifying, gathering and interpreting information about students’ learning.
Basically helps one to improve learning and also set direction for ongoing teaching and learning process.

3. Types of assessment
Summative Assessment – takes place after the learning has been completed and provides information and feedback that sums up the teaching and learning process.
Diagnostic Assessment – helps in identifying students’ current knowledge of a subject, their skill sets and capabilities and to clarify misconceptions before teaching takes place.
Authentic Assessment – describes the multiple forms of assessment that reflect student learning, achievement, motivation, and attitudes on instructionally relevant classroom activities
- emphasizes what students know
- includes a task for students to perform and a rubric by which their performance on the task will be evaluated
Performance Assessment – requires students to demonstrate what they have mastered specific skills and competencies by performing or producing something.

Multiple Choice – traditional and tend to be reliable
- do not require a lot of time or cost a lot of money to administer.
- generate scores that are familiar to educators.

ICT in assessment involves the use of digital devices to assist in the construction, delivery, storage or reporting of student assessment task, responses, grades or feedback

Computer Assisted Assessment – refers to the use of computers to assess students learning and performance and are typically formative.
Computer Adaptive Testing – uses a software that will automatically adjust the level of difficulty of the questions it poses.

Portfolio – a purposeful compilation and reflection of one’s work, efforts and progress.
Electronic Portfolio – also known as e-portfolio, digital portfolio ,or online portfolio

Developmental Portfolios – demonstrates the advancement and development of student skills over a period of time. (works-in-progress)

student work.

Rubrics – let students know what is expected of them before the activity and demystify grades by clearly stating the expectations for a project or assignment

Online Assessment – the process used to measure certain aspects of information for a set purpose where the assessment is delivered via a computer connected to a network. (educational test)
