2 assessment The systematic collection of information about student learning using the time, knowledge, expertise, and resources available, in order to inform decision about how to improve learning Is the process of identifying, gathering and interpreting information about students’ learning. Basically helps one to improve learning and also set direction for ongoing teaching and learning process.

3 Types of assessment Summative Assessment – takes place after the learning has been completed and provides information and feedback that sums up the teaching and learning process. Diagnostic Assessment – helps in identifying students’ current knowledge of a subject, their skill sets and capabilities and to clarify misconceptions before teaching takes place. Authentic Assessment – describes the multiple forms of assessment that reflect student learning, achievement, motivation, and attitudes on instructionally relevant classroom activities - emphasizes what students know - includes a task for students to perform and a rubric by which their performance on the task will be evaluated Performance Assessment – requires students to demonstrate what they have mastered specific skills and competencies by performing or producing something.

4 Current trends in assessment
Multiple Choice – traditional and tend to be reliable - do not require a lot of time or cost a lot of money to administer. - generate scores that are familiar to educators. MAJOR FEATURES OF CURRENT ASSESSMENT ARE: Integral to classroom culture Oriented toward clear learning goals Incremental and interactive Providing feedback that is timely and specific Focused on the process of learning as much as the outcome Uses varied methods to deepen learning and meet diverse student needs

5 role of ict in assessment
ICT in assessment involves the use of digital devices to assist in the construction, delivery, storage or reporting of student assessment task, responses, grades or feedback

6 Ict-based assessment Computer Assisted Assessment – refers to the use of computers to assess students learning and performance and are typically formative. Computer Adaptive Testing – uses a software that will automatically adjust the level of difficulty of the questions it poses. Online Assessment

7 E- Portfolio assessment
Portfolio – a purposeful compilation and reflection of one’s work, efforts and progress. Electronic Portfolio – also known as e-portfolio, digital portfolio ,or online portfolio - a collection of electronic evidence assembled and managed by a user, usually on the web. TYPES OF E – PORTFOLIO Developmental Portfolios – demonstrates the advancement and development of student skills over a period of time. (works-in-progress) Assessment Portfolios – demonstrate students competence and skill for well- defined areas. ( end-of-course) Showcase Portfolio – demonstrate exemplary work and student skills - created at the end of the program to highlight the quality of student work.

8 Digital rubrics Rubrics – let students know what is expected of them before the activity and demystify grades by clearly stating the expectations for a project or assignment

9 Digital assessment alternatives
Online Assessment – the process used to measure certain aspects of information for a set purpose where the assessment is delivered via a computer connected to a network. (educational test) Examples: Digital Concept Map Online Forum Survey Tools Wikis Blogs

10 ICT for Self and Peer Assessment – students engages in deliberate thought about what they are learning and how they are learning it. -students step back from the learning process to think what they have learned, how they have learned and why they have learned. example: WebPA Mobile Apps for Assessment - the increasing capacity of wireless communication and the growing number of mobile devices (e.g. smartphones and tablets) on the one hand as well as modern Internet technologies like JavaScript, HTML5 on the other hand provide new possibilities for mobile based learning and assessment example: Socrative Plickers
