1 Brown Marmorated Stink Bug
The brown marmorated stink bug, was first found in Allentown, Pennsylvania in This insect is native to Asia and considered a major agricultural pest on citrus and soybean crops in Japan. This insect feeds on a wide variety of shade and fruit trees, vegetables and legumes. Reported hosts include apple, peach, pear, citrus, figs, mulberries, soybean, butterfly bush, and some weeds such as burdock. The brown marmorated stink bug is a sucking insect that pierces the host plant in order to feed. This feeding results, in the formation of small, necrotic areas on the surface of fruits and leaves of its hosts. This insect also invades houses in the fall to overwinter much like the Asian lady beetle. They do not do any damage while in or on homes but many people find them unpleasant to look at and they do emit a strong odor when disturbed. The adult Brown Marmorated Stink Bug has some characteristics that set it apart from other stink bugs: (1) white bands on the antennae and (2) alternating white and dark bands on the rear edge of the abdomen.
