Spiritually Minded We speak of being “spiritually minded” in sermons, classes, etc. We want to know if a particular person is “spiritually minded” There is a biblical view of “spiritually minded” and a contemporary view

“Spiritual” What Does It Mean?
1. Spiritually speaking: not literal (1 Cor. 10:3-4; Rev. 11:8) 2. Spiritual gifts (Rom. 1:11; Cor. 12:1; 14:1) 3. Spiritual body (1 Cor. 15:44-46) 4. Spiritual law (Rom. 7:14)

5. Spirit beings: angels and demons (Eph. 6:12) 6. Spirit of the divine: God (Jn. 4:24), Christ (Lk. 23:46), and the Holy Spirit (Lk. 3:22) 7. Spirit of mankind (1 Cor. 2:11; Thess. 5:23)

Marks of the Spiritually Minded
Led by the spiritual words of the Holy Spirit, not by the words of mankind (1 Cor. 2:14-15; 14:37; Rom. 8:4-5; Rev. 2-3) Grows toward spiritual maturity, not remaining an immature babe (1 Cor. 3:1; Heb. 5:11 – 6:1)

Concerned for the spiritual needs of the brethren, not just the needs of self (Gal. 6:1) Appreciates God’s spiritual blessings, not forgetting them or throwing them away (Rom. 15:27; 1 Cor. 9:11; Eph. 1:3)

Seeks to understand and apply God’s spiritual wisdom in the heart, not just having a Bible at home or in the hand (Col. 1:9) Associates regularly with other spiritually minded Christians, not the world (1 Pet. 2:5)

Busy doing spiritual works in God’s service and worshipping God, not preoccupied by worldly things or activities (1 Pet. 2:5)

Being Spiritual Spirituality is expected of all Christians (1 Cor. 3:1) Spirituality starts on the inside, not the outside (Jn. 4:20-24) Spirituality does not come automatically or by accident. It must be actively developed:

Being Spiritual Spiritual words read and obeyed (1 Cor. 2:13-14)
Spiritual songs sung (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16) Spiritual prayers offered (Rom. 8:26-27) Spiritual fruit cultivated (Gal. 5:22-25)
