A simple definition of “worship” comes from Webster’s Dictionary (1828) Worship is to honor with extravagant love and extreme submission.

The “act” of “worship” means to take real action to demonstrate your faith in ascribing God as “worth-ship” or “worthy” in “ship” meaning “character”.

Worship “In spirit” is intended to be contrasted with the location of worship. The spiritual location, or being in right relationship with God, is the issue and not the physical location. To worship in “spirit” involves being personal and involved on a level that includes emotion and not mere intellect.

Worship in “truth” is to be contrasted with the worship in “symbolism” which was used by both Jews and Samaritans. To worship in truth does not simply mean to worship sincerely. To worship in truth means to worship with an understanding of whom you are worshipping. We need to deepen our knowledge and relationship with God.

Worship ~ We assemble together honoring God as worthy in character with our extravagant love and extreme submission.

We worship as we minister in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
We worship as we share community events in the announcements.

We worship as we share the Word of God in preaching.
We worship as we respond to the preaching of the Word.
We worship as we fellowship and greet new people.

12. Closing: Part of my job is to be sure all things are done in “decency and order” and to foster the flow of the Holy Spirit. Your job is to take every area and infuse it with worship in spirit and in truth.
