2 Expectations for your child
The Government: Raised Expectations with the 2014 curriculum Provided schools with key expectations for the end of Key Stage 1 Expectations cover reading, writing and Maths At the end of the year teachers make a judgement as to whether your child has reached these expectations. Tests provided by the government help teachers with these judgements.

3 Government Testing or SATs
Children are assessed in: Reading English grammar and punctuation maths The Tests take place during the month of MAY.

4 Reading Reading tests consist of 2 papers: Paper 1 (the easier paper)
Paper 2 ( separate reading booklet and questions) Cover poetry, fiction and non fiction Questions are designed to show understanding of vocabulary and comprehension of the text.

5 Reading Multiple choice questions Short Answer

6 Reading Matching a label to a statement

7 Reading Find and Copy Questions Open-Ended Questions Short Answer

8 Spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPAG)
2 Papers: Paper 1 Spelling Paper 2 grammar questions

12 Children will sit 2 papers: Paper 1 – Arithmetic Paper 2 – Reasoning

15 How to help your child There’s nothing to worry about!
Praise and encourage! Fantastic attendance! Homework tasks Reading every night! Talk about what they are doing at school Good sleep patterns and healthy breakfasts!

16 How to help with reading
Develop a love for books don’t see reading as a chore. Enjoy stories together. Reading a little at a time. Discuss the books. Talk about new words and there meanings Read a range of texts. – poetry, comics, recipes, football programmes, TV guides Visit the library. IT IS FREE!!!!!

17 How to help with Writing
Talking about events, ideas etc! Developing language. Thinking of alternative words. Encouraging writing at home. (shopping lists, keeping a diary, writing stories, letters, cards) Practicing forming letters correctly Learning spellings (year one and two words) How to help with Writing

18 How to help with maths Play times table songs
Mental maths games e.g counting forwards and backwards. Learn to tell the time Reading numbers in the environment Finding and naming 2-D and 3-D shapes Cook together. Weighing amounts. Play logic games like dominoes, cards, snakes and ladders
