2 Introduction How does my sin affect me?
Does it bother me when I sin? Do I lose sleep when I sin? Do I feel like I’ve lost anything when I sin? How do I react when confronted with my sin? How serious do I take sin? The answers to these questions are an indication of how close my relationship is with God!

3 David’s Sin with Bathsheba II Samuel 11 – 12
David saw a woman bathing (II Sam. 11:2) David inquired about the woman (3) David sent messengers to get her (4) David laid with her (4) Bathsheba conceived and sent word to David (5)

4 David’s Sin with Bathsheba Tried to Hide Sin
David sent for Uriah the Hittite (Bathsheba’s husband) (II Sam. 11:6) Uriah was one of David’s mighty men (II Sam. 23:8, 39) David sent Uriah to his home – but he wouldn’t go (11) David got Uriah drunk – but Uriah still didn’t go home (13) David had Uriah murdered and sent the orders by Uriah himself! (14-17) David sent for Bathsheba and married her (27) Bathsheba bore a son (27)

5 David’s Sin with Bathsheba Confronted with his sin
God sent Nathan to David (II Sam. 12:1) Nathan told David the story about the man and his lamb (1-4) David was very angry someone would do such a thing (5-6) Nathan told David “You are the man!” (7) David told Nathan “I have sinned against the Lord” (13)

7 How did David Feel about his Sin? Psalms 51
David was MISERABLE! His sin was ALWAYS before him (3) He had sinned against God (4) He had done EVIL (4) Like his bones were broken (8) That he was separated from God and Holy Spirit (11)

8 What did David want from God?
Mercy (1) Transgressions blotted out (1, 9) Cleansed from his sins (2, 7) Guilt removed (14) New clean and steadfast heart (10) To be happy again To hear joy and gladness (8) The joy of God’s salvation restored (12) David wanted God’s forgiveness

9 What did God want from David?
Truth in his heart (6) A broken and contrite heart (16-17) Ps. 34:18 God is near the contrite Is. 66:1-2 God looks on the contrite Is. 57:15 God dwells with the contrite Luke 22:61-62 Peter wept bitterly

10 Consequences of David’s Sin
Bathsheba conceived a son outside of her marriage Uriah was murdered Lord’s enemies had been given a “great occasion … to blaspheme” The baby died David was never the same leader again I Kings 15:4-5

11 Conclusion Mark 12:29-30 The first and greatest commandment is to love God! Ps. 51 We should want everything removed that stands between us and God God still wants contrite hearts
