2. About the PARCC

3. What are the primary objectives of the PARCC Assessment System?
Determine whether students are college- and career-ready or “on track”
Provide tools to assess student learning and support instruction during the school year
Report growth in performance as well as absolute achievement
Report comparable results across schools, districts and member states
Generate valid and reliable information to inform instruction and accountability decisions
Use technology for a range of purposes including increasing student access, providing accommodations, engaging students, and creating efficiencies in administration, scoring and reporting

5. Five Performance Levels
PARCC uses five performance levels that delineate the knowledge, skills, and practices students are able to demonstrate:
Level 1:
Did Not Yet Meet Expectations
Level 2: Partially Met Expectations
Level 3: Approached Expectations
Level 4: Met Expectations
Level 5: Exceeded Expectations

8. How PARCC has been presenting Evidence-Centered Design (ECD)
Claims
Design begins with the inferences (claims) we want to make about students
Evidence
In order to support claims, we must gather evidence
Tasks
Tasks are designed to elicit specific evidence from students in support of claims
ECD is a deliberate and systematic approach to assessment development that will help to establish the validity of the assessments, increase the comparability of year-to year results, and increase efficiencies/reduce costs.

9. PARCC mathematics assessments will include three types of tasks.

I. Tasks assessing concepts, skills and procedures
Balance of conceptual understanding, fluency, and application
Can involve any or all mathematical practice standards
Machine scorable including innovative, computer-based formats.
II. Tasks assessing expressing mathematical reasoning
Each task calls for written arguments / justifications, critique of reasoning, or precision in mathematical statements (MP.3, 6).
Can involve other mathematical practice standards
May include a mix of machine scored and hand scored responses.
III. Tasks assessing modeling / applications
Each task calls for modeling/application in a real-world context or scenario (MP.4)
Can involve other mathematical practice standards.

29. PARCC Score Reports Parent Score Report
•Parents will receive their student’s score report for this year’s assessments in the fall.
•Each student’s score report will indicate which performance level he or she falls into based on the score received.
•The report is intended to help parents work with their child’s teachers and school officials to decide how best to support their child’s needs.
•In future years, it is expected that parents will receive score reports by the end of the school year in which testing took place.
