1 StratusLab Sustainability
C. Loomis (CNRS/LAL) EGI Technical Forum (Prague) 20 September 2012

2 Contents Collaboration Infrastructures Software
Goal of the collaboration Structure of post-project collaboration Infrastructures Tooling (code mgt., build, test) Reference cloud infrastructures Software High-level roadmap Evolution by service Support & Communication System administrators and users

3 StratusLab Project  Collaboration
Goal Support the StratusLab open-source, IaaS cloud distribution Evolve and improve the software for both system administrators and users Open Collaboration Supported by MoU between partners Institutes/companies expected to providing resources to sign MoU Individuals may be required to sign contributor’s agreement. Sufficient Resources Committed Developers for all components identified and committed Reference cloud and testing infrastructures to continue operation CNRS (FR) GRNET (GR) SIXSQ (CH) TCD (IE)

4 Tooling Code Management Build & Test Binary Package Distribution
All code migrated to GitHub pages ( Use GitHub issues for bug/feature tracking Build & Test Use Travis-CI for continuous builds and unit testing Hudson for release builds Nexus for artifact repository SlipStream for system-level tests and validation Binary Package Distribution Yum repositories for CentOS 6.x and OpenSuSE 12.x

5 Reference Cloud Infrastructures
GRNET Will provide StratusLab cloud on existing hardware Resources and support available on best-effort basis Grid site over the cloud will be decommissioned CNRS/LAL Current production cloud will increase in size Long-term and/or large-scale use limited to “local” users Short-term, limited test accounts provided to others 5/7 support for “local” users; best-effort support for demo accounts Others Bioinformatics sites, Helix Nebula, …

6 Software: High-level Roadmap
New/Improved Features Watches/notification for state changes and service events Better resource utilization overview and management Fine-grained accounting of resources Improved stability and robustness of services Ability to support different virtual machine managers Interfaces Complete REST interface (browser and API) for all services Provide EC2 adaptor to REST interface Documentation Better organization (‘general’ on web site; ‘specific’ in code repos.) Provide support for several standard deployment scenarios

7 Individual Components
Authentication/REST Interface Integrated view of all site services via REST interface Client Adaptations for changes in other services Better Windows support Storage Better coordination and visibility of various services (pdisk, iSCSI, …) Improved support for advanced storage services (NetApp, …) MarketPlace Move to Cassandra to facilitate federation, simplify implementation Likely replacement of SPARQL search with full text search

8 Individual Components
Metadata Split from MarketPlace repository Improved documentation on extending info. in image manifests Standard Base Images Fully automate build process (ttylinux, CentOS, OpenSuSE, Ubuntu) Better publicize the collaboration’s recommended images Documentation/High-level Tests Bring together tutorial, use-cases, and benchmarks Automate testing of standard workflows

9 Individual Components
OpenNebula Integrate with newer versions of OpenNebula Clarify interfaces between StratusLab and OpenNebula Support for OpenNebula through UCM Claudia Direct support removed from StratusLab distribution Claudia (and associated monitoring) to be done through 4Cast

10 Support and Communication
Mailing lists, website, and twitter for announcements Revamp website to focus on providing information to users (see new site: Support Current list to remain for technical questions and problems Help Wanted! Provide feedback on how you’d like to get information and help from StratusLab.

11 Conclusions StratusLab Collaboration Provide Feedback Contacts
Effort committed to continue development and support Collaboration to be formalized through MoUs Join the collaboration as an institute or individual Provide Feedback On overall roadmap or for individual components How you want to get information and support from the collaboration Contacts Website: Support:
