1 Bellwork 10/7/14 Draw this picture and label each part:
Radiation, Conduction, Convection…Then, justify by explaining each label.

2 Air Exerts Pressure Air molecules move constantly and bounce off of each other Every time a molecule bounces off an object, it exerts a force. Air pressure is the force of air molecules pushing on an area.

3 Air Exerts Pressure Cont…
The greater the force, the higher the pressure. Because air molecules move in all directions, air pressure pushes in all directions.

4 Air pressure is related to altitude and density
Air pressure is weighing down on you RIGHT NOW! Why can’t we feel it?? How would pressure vary from standing at sea level versus standing on a mountain? Just as air pressure decreases with altitude, so does the density of air. Air molecules closer to the ground (or sea level) are closer together WHY??

5 Pressure and Air Motion
If air pressure was the same in all locations, air would not move as much. Because of pressure differences, air starts to move from areas of high pressure towards areas of low pressure. Why would air inside a container has less air pressure than the air outside?

6 Barometers and Air Pressure
Air pressure can be measured in different ways. Barometer-any instrument that measures air pressure

7 EXIT TICKET Explain how both the egg demonstration, the index card demonstration, and the bulb demonstration relate to atmospheric/air pressure. You will turn in your notebooks today so that I can read your answers  You may use your notes.
