Contact UAF Hazmat for disposal or assistance

Does the waste contain any hazardous chemicals (formaldehyde, ethidium bromide, flammable liquids, etc.), or is the pH of the material <5 or >10?
YES
Contact Incinerator Supervisor for disposal

Does the waste contain material of human or animal origin (blood, blood products, tissues, cell lines)? Is waste contaminated with any material of human or animal origin?
YES
Collect sharps in puncture-resistant container marked “Sharps”. NO
YES
Does the waste contain sharps (syringes, razor blades, Pasteur pipets, microscope slides)?
If bacterial or viral agents are present, place sharps container in autoclave bag and follow Autoclaving Flowchart
If no bacterial or viral agents are present, remove any “Biohazard” labels and place sharps container in box marked “Broken Glass”. Seal and dispose in regular trash. NO
Does the waste contain cultures of bacteria, recombinant DNA organisms, viruses, or material that is contaminated with such agents (pipet tips, gloves, microfuge tubes, etc.)?
