4 Passenger Restraint Requirements
All preschool children weighing less than 60 pounds must be secured in a child restraint All other passengers and preschool children weighing 60 pounds or more must be secured in a lap belt or lap and shoulder belt combination. 9/14/2018 HCAP HEAD START

5 Bus Monitor Responsibilities
Assign one bus monitor to every school bus that transports our precious preschool children. Bus monitors must know where and how to: Use fire extinguishers Use seat belt cutters locate all the exits locate the first aid kit 9/14/2018 HCAP HEAD START

6 Safe Boarding & Exiting and Loading & Unloading Practices
Teach children to use the handrails when boarding and leaving the school bus. Emphasize that staff must always escort children to and from the school bus loading and unloading area. 9/14/2018 HCAP HEAD START

7 Danger Zones around the School Bus
12 feet in front and back of the bus. 10 feet on either side of the bus. 9/14/2018 HCAP OAHU HEAD START

8 Emergency Evacuation Drills
Emergency evacuation drills must be held at least 3 times during the program year. Exits are located at: the main entrance Driver window Roof hatches (77 & 53 pass bus) Side window exits Rear door 9/14/2018 HCAP HEAD START

9 Developmentally Appropriate Activities for Preschool Children
Provide bus safety activities that stimulate social and emotional development, cognitive and problem solving skills, physical development, and language development. Activities may include coloring books puzzles music and movement exercises field trips to the Honolulu Zoo, Bishop Museum, Waikiki Aquarium, Sea Life Park, Kualoa Ranch, Watercress Farms, Police Departments, Fire Stations, Hospitals Invite parents to participate on field trips, which enhances their children’s learning experience 9/14/2018 HCAP HEAD START
