-non-conformists: rejected fashion, tradition, and morals -”Tune in, turn on, drop out” Timothy Leary Leave and create an idyllic community -hippies rock music, radical appearance, drug use, communal living, eastern religions -counterculture turned violent and failed to cope with reality of surviving
