2 Grade book new features
New Gradebook is currently being developed by Canvas. Some features are ready and can be enabled for faculty who request it. New Gradebook features are optional for J-term and Spring semester. Summer 2018 new Gradebook will be enabled for all courses. Enter a support ticket to request new features to be enabled in your course; If after enabling new grade features, you can change back to “old” version by entering another support ticket with your request. This powerpoint explains features in the new Gradebook.

Menu options moved to left side of grades area New Menus options for filter and sorting More filtering options Unpublished assessments now appear in grades area Option to hide or show “Unpublished” assessments columns More color coding options Drag and drop total and columns Re-arrange columns

4 New Grades view Menu options have been moved to the left side of the grades area Improved color coding for grade status and each row includes alternating colors to help with navigation.

7 View - Arrange By Arrange By - allows you to select a specific order for columns to display in the grades area: Assignment Name A-Z or Z-A Due Date Oldest to Newest Newest to Oldest Points Lowest to Highest Highest to Lowest Module First to Last Last to First Assignment group columns can now be manually moved by dragging and dropping to a new position.

8 View – Filters New Filter options are: Assignment Groups Modules
Sections This option only available when course has been combined. See next slide for details about how to use the filter

9 Using Filters Using Filters:
Select one or more of the three options to filter the grade columns. The filter opens at the top of the grades area. Select the Filter drop-down to select an option. To turn off the filter, uncheck the option under the View> Filter menu.

10 View - Status New Grade Status feature:
Ability to customize the color code for each status type When entering a grade a Grade Detail tray window will appear with these status options (see Grade Detail Tray slide)

11 Actions Actions options: Sync grades to SIS Import (grades)
These features have not changed. Sync grades to SIS Import (grades) Export (grades) If export or import has been used then it will be listed

12 Column Functionality New Column Functionality: No change:
Ability to sort by: Grade – Low to High Grade – High to Low Missing Late Enter Grade as: Points Percentage No change: Message Students Who Curve Grades Set Default Grade Mute Assignment No longer in column menu: Speedgrader – available in grade detail tray (see next slide) Assignment Details

14 What functionality is no longer available
No longer can “Hide Student” names Will be included in later enhancements Show concluded or inactive students This filter was not used since inactive students did not show in the grades area.

15 Phase I – In progress New Features that will be available in the next few months Late and missing flags with automatic deduction policies Improved commenting Instructor defines if grades post automatically or manually

16 Phase II – Future Work Release date for these features is not known at this time. Improved Grading Scheme selection on assignments. More total viewing options, replacing ‘Treat Ungraded As Zero’. Resizing of the total column in the gradebook. Total grade adjustment. ‘Message Students Who’ for gradebook totals. Turn off automatic calculation and manually enter totals. Add more notes columns in the gradebook and export all note columns. Add a couple points for all students on an assignment in bulk. Option to hide points and/or percentages from students. Grading Schemes export as they’re shown in gradebook. Updated search allows searching for students & assignments.
