1 TEACHER SLIDE This week students and teachers will start the process of requesting teacher recommendations. Now that students have completed the PSAT and you’ve had a chance to get to know your seminar students, it’s time to get to work. This week - Included is: The Brag Sheet You may print it off for your class or make it available for download on your own SWIFT site or as an editable document on O365. We can help you with this if you un unsure of how to do it. Monday - September 16,2017 Why do we need recommendations? I’m only a Junior! Recommendations are not only useful for college admissions. They can be used to help you get a job, earn a scholarship, and prepare you for exit interviews. It’s important to let your teachers know that you will be wanting recommendations from them in your Junior year because you will most likely be taking your most difficult classes during this year. You want these teachers to be looking for how you grow and what you excel at in their classes. Target: I can begin the process for gathering teacher recommendations.

Monday - September 16,2017 What kind of a job wants a recommendation? While not all jobs will require that you supply a letter or recommendation, ALL jobs ask that you supply them with references. References are people that employers can contact in order to ask about your performance and character. It’s helpful to know the people who will vouch for you in these cases and to make sure these recommenders and references have a clear picture of who you are and what you are capable of and passionate about. Monday - September 16,2017 What do I do to get a good recommendation? One resource that has been very useful to students at Lincoln is called a Brag Sheet. The Brag Sheet asks you to answer several questions about YOU including: Activities Volunteer work Academics Awards Interests Adjectives to describe yourself Challenges you’ve overcome Goals This provides your teachers with GREAT information which will help them to make you look great to perspective employers and admissions officials. You may also want to give them your resume or personal statement if you have one! The more info they have about you, the better. Monday - September 16,2017 This week: Complete the Brag Sheet as thoughtfully and thoroughly as you can. You may want to discuss answers with family, counselors, mentors, friends or teachers who know you well. Brag Sheet DUE on Thursday, October 19.
