2 Introduction Will Lamartine Thompson was a member of the Lord’s church and wrote many hymns in the late 1800s/early 1900s: Jesus is All the World to Me Lead Me Gently Home, Father Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling He wrote a thought-provoking hymn in 1887 perti-nent to our study: There’s a Great Day Coming

3 Introduction There’s a great day coming, A great day coming;
There’s a great day coming by and by, When the saints and the sinners Shall be parted right and left, Are you ready for that day to come?

4 Introduction There’s a bright day coming, A bright day coming;
There’s a bright day coming by and by. But its brightness shall only come To them that love the Lord. Are you ready for that day to come?

5 Introduction There’s a sad day coming, A sad day coming;
There’s a sad day coming by and by, When the sinner shall hear his doom: Depart, I know you not!

6 Introduction Are you ready for that day to come?
Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready for the judgment day? For the judgment day?

7 Introduction Brother Thompson was correct! There is a Great Day coming! “And the angels who did not keep their proper domain, but left their own abode, He has reserved in everlasting chains under darkness for the judgment of the great day…” Jude 6 “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth — those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” John 5:28-29

8 There's a Great Day Coming John 5:28-29
When Christ will come again! We don’t know when it will come! All will be resurrected and judged! A great separation will be made! Preparation is necessary! There’s a Great Day Coming! There's a Great Day Coming John 5:28-29

9 There's a Great Day Coming
1. Christ will come again! Most either don’t believe or ignore the fact Jesus is coming again: Jn. 14:3; Acts 1:9-11; Heb. 9:28 Peter refers to such people as “scoffers” : 2 Pet. 3:3-4 They do so out of unbelief; they choose to live as their own “god”: Jude 17-19a Some Christians would never admit it; but they too live as “scoffers” : Phil. 3: Such are hypocrites and lost! Titus 1:16; Matt. 25:11-12 It would do us all good to spend some time each day contemplating the reality There’s a Great Day Coming! There's a Great Day Coming

10 There's a Great Day Coming
2. We don’t know when! Jesus taught many parables and made many statements that the time of His second coming was unknown: The faithful and unfaithful servants : Matt. 25:45-51 The wise and foolish virgins : Matt. 25:1-11 Jesus compares 2nd coming to days of Noah: Matt. 24:36-44 Oblivious to the truth because they didn’t care about it! Take home #1: “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming.” v. 42 Take home #2: “Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not know expect.” v. 44 There's a Great Day Coming

11 3. All resurrected & judged!
Jesus makes this crystal clear: “Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice 29 and come forth — those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” John 5:28-29 The apostle Paul makes this crystal clear: “I have hope in God, which they themselves also accept, that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust.” Acts 24:15 “For since by man came death, by Man also came the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all shall be made alive.” Corinthians 15:21-22 There's a Great Day Coming

12 3. All resurrected & judged!
Some claiming to be Christians deny this important truth. Jehovah’s Witnesses, 7th Day Adventist, even some of our brethren teach annihilation. Others, even some of our brethren, say the resurrection is past : 2 Tim. 2:17-18 Both the righteous and wicked need bodies suited for the environment of eternity. Paul describes it as “a spiritual body” and as an “incorruptible body” : vv. 44 & 52 Righteous: Phil. 3:20-21 Wicked: Mk. 9:43-44 There's a Great Day Coming

13 There's a Great Day Coming
4. A great separation! Jesus describes this separation: Matt. 25:31-46 Imagine being eternally separated from your loved ones: Lk. 16:26 Imagine being eternally separated from God, from all that is good, from all hope: 2 Thess. 1:7-9 No wonder hell is described as “everlasting fire” ; “outer darkness…weeping and gnashing of teeth” : Matt. 25:41; 8:12 There's a Great Day Coming

14 5. Preparation necessary!
“Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people.” “I’ve never been to a funeral where it wasn’t said of the deceased, ‘Now they are in a better place.’” How do I know that is not true? Jesus said so! Matt. 7:13-14 Funeral home statement is made out of willful ignorance. Bible translated into 670 languages, New Testament 1521 languages, parts of Bible into 1121 more languages. 3.9 billion Bibles sold in the past 50 years (2nd 820 million copies). 9 of 10 households have at least one Bible (ave. 4.7 per household). Only 37% of Americans report reading the Bible at least once per week or more. There's a Great Day Coming

15 5. Preparation necessary!
The last stat identifies the problem: Only 37% read their Bible at least once per week or more. Given Jesus’ stark statements in Matthew 7:13-14 even the few who do read the Bible don’t obey what it says: Lk. 6:46; Acts 10:35; 1 Jn. 2:3-5; 5:3 All spiritual blessings are “in Christ” (Eph. 1:3); so, if we want to go to heaven it is pretty simple: We must do whatever is necessary to get “in Christ” and stay “in Christ.” There's a Great Day Coming

16 Conclusion There’s a great day coming, A great day coming;
Are you ready for that day to come? Are you ready? Are you ready? Are you ready for the judgment day? For the judgment day? On that day you and I will have to give an account for how we’ve lived this life: 2 Cor. 5:10 How does that make you feel? Does it give you “pause”? A sense of dread? A sense of joy? Rev. 22:20; 2 Tim. 4:6-8 How do you think Paul reacted to his statement in 2 Corinthians 5:10? “Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men…” 2 Cor. 5:11
