Probation Officers

2 What is a Probation Officer?
A probation officer is a person that provides social services to assist in the rehabilitation of law offenders. Their goal is to encourage offenders to put their criminal pasts behind them.

3 What Do They Do? A Probation Officer watches over for people who have gotten out of prison. They can also keep track of kids who have gotten in trouble with the law and need to be watched to make sure they don’t get in trouble again.

4 How Do They Do Their Job? Probation Officers go to houses and do drug tests on people depending on the type of probation officer. If a kid or adult has been ordered to house arrest then the Probation Officer will put a tracking bracelet on them to see where they are. The person will have to call to check in where they are at.

5 How Much Do They Make? A Probation Officer a median wage of $47,840 a year, which would be $23.00 an hour.

You need a 4 year bachelors degree to be a probation officer

7 What Skills Do You Need? To be a probation officer you drive to different places and associate with many different people. You would need communication, navigation, emotional stability, organization, critical thinking and many more skills.
