# Students Assistive Technology Johnson Scholarship Tech Fee $ Currently, we have registered students with disabilities all campuses #1 for Assistive Technology in the SUS System Johnson Scholarship Awarded $251,699.00 Tech Fee Grant Funding – received $158, since 2009

3 Services Provided (varies by student)
Sign Language Interpreters (ASL) C-Print Transcription Communication Access Real-time Translation (CART) FM Listening System Visual Alert System Front row seating Notetaking assistance Exam Adaptations Captioning Services (case by case basis) Experience significant reduction in sensitivity to sounds Loss of adaptability to correctly interpret auditory stimuli May have some capacity to hear but cannot discriminate clearly to rely upon speech American Sign Language (ASL) and lip (speech) reading Only 30% of spoken English is comprehended

4 Interpreters Must be RID (Registry for Interpreters for the Deaf) Certified minimum level III Most agencies have RID level IV or V Hours of interpreting per week – hours max Team interpreting – provide clarification – switch out SAS Provides ASL Interpreters/C-Print/CART In-person courses Hybrid courses (online/in-person) Meetings with Professors Group projects outside classroom Meetings with Academic Advisor – course registration

5 Costs and Arranging Services
SAS does not have a staff interpreter Arrangements CART Interpreters * See handout – Budget & Costs Needs: Staff Interpreter – Notetaking Coordinator, Assistant Director (Davie) & Director SAS C-Printers are Graduate Assistants (National Institute for the Deaf) $450 certification training & $330 for software CART - $120 an hour: 2 hour min ASL NIR - $80 an hour plus SAS needs a fulltime staff member to coordinate interpreting services – knows ASL
