10 Principles for the Use of Library Space
Information Commons Discussion Group June 23, 2007 Principles for the Use of Library Space Mission of the Libraries: To support and strengthen teaching, learning and research by providing the collections, services, and environments that lead to intellectual discovery. Library space is dedicated to the support of the Mission of the IU Libraries. Library space is dedicated to the provision of services and collections for library users and any related activities. Priority for library space should be given to library/research related services and operations. The Libraries may decline to reallocate space or to partner with other units when the Libraries have a higher priority for the space. A Memorandum of Understanding will be written and executed when the Libraries agree to partner with and/or provide space for campus organizations or other service providers. The agreement will include a sunset period to allow for periodic review of the partnership. As academic units, all IUB libraries have a role in supporting campus and university activities. Guidelines for use of the Wells Library Lobby and other library spaces for short term events are posted on the Libraries Web site.
