St. John’s Church of England Primary School Newsletter
- Learning and Caring Together - Issue 10 Friday 17th November Thankfulness Our value of thankfulness this half term has certainly given us lots to be thankful for! Unbeknown to the teachers, the children were given a secret mission by Southport and Area Youth Workers Trust last week. This has resulted in teachers being given surprise gifts of letters, badges and even cakes, as a way of the children saying thank you for their teacher’s hard work. Thank you so much children, parents and SAYWT for this act of thankfulness! Our thankfulness leaflet was sent home earlier this week giving you lots of ideas and ways to be thankful. Please let us know of any examples of your children being thankful. Year 3 Young Leaders Award Year 3 are very excited to be taking part in The Archbishop of York Young Leaders Award. This award encourages the children to think about how they can help their local community with the motto being ‘Be the change you want to see.’ Each week the children will complete challenges to show that they are able to improve the lives of others. This week the children collected clothes which we have donated to the Queenscourt Hospice Charity shop. Sue, the manager, was over the moon with our donations and assured us that they will definitely help others. Well done Year 3! Anti-Bullying Week This week the children have taken part in various activities around the theme of anti-bullying. This year the theme is ‘All different, All Equal.’ The children have completed a J.O.Y Challenge to show how they can prevent any form of bullying by being a good friend. PFA Film Night It is the turn of the infants next week with film night on Thursday. Reception, Year 1 and 2 children are invited to stay and watch Dumbo on Thursday. Please ensure slips are returned promptly as Mrs Patterson has to have enough time to go and buy provisions! Football WOW – what a result for the girls last week!! Brilliant performances all round on a cold, windy evening at BDS saw St. John’s run out deserved 6-0 winners! Grace was superb charging regularly through their defence and scored a wonderful hat-trick. Our midfield of Sienna, Jess and Lottie were tireless in their running up and down the pitch and controlled the game beautifully. The defence of Krystal, Lily and supersub Maddie were rock-like in their steadfastness to not let BDS through but on the rare occasion, the opposition got a sight of goal, Courtney was as excellent as ever between the sticks. A memorable evening both for the girls and for the vocal supporters with everyone enjoying the fantastic result!
