Puberty is the physical changes that occur during adolescence. Adolescence is both physical and emotional changes; puberty is just the physical changes. The sex hormones released by the testes or ovaries cause the changes during adolescence. The physical changes that happen are: Boys have wider shoulders and more musculature; girls have breasts and wider hips. The sperm and eggs are made to allow humans to reproduce. Girls develop breasts to be able to feed a baby. Self-image becomes important during adolescence because it seems important to be attractive to others to gain/maintain status and relationships.
