2. Recorder Rules
Raise your hand to ask or answer a questions. Please do not call out
Please only play the recorder when I tell you to
Please keep your recorder to yourself. Do NOT let a friend hold onto it, and do NOT trade

3. The Recorder Front of recorder: Faces AWAY from you Back of recorder:
Faces TOWARDS you

4. Holding the Recorder LEFT HAND ON TOP HALF OF THE RECORDER
Left hand thumb covers the back hole
RIGHT HAND ON BOTTOM HALF OF THE RECORDER

5. Playing our First Note LEFT HAND THUMB covers the back hole
LEFT HAND INDEX FINGER covers the top hole on the front of the recorder
Use flat fingers (NOT finger tips) to cover the holes all the way… LEAKS LEAD TO SQUEAKS
All other holes remain open

6. Blowing into the Recorder
Blow lightly - Too much air will cause squeaks
Blow warm air, like you’re trying to fog your car window on a cold day
Blow into the recorder like you’re trying to make a candle flicker but not go out

7. Playing Different Notes
Adding or removing fingers will change the note that you are playing.
