7. Man vs Self When the protagonist faces an internal conflict.
They are usually struggling to make a difficult decision
The issue is not resolved until the protagonist makes a decision and follows through with an action.
In Aladdin, Aladdin struggles with how he thinks of himself and if he should tell Jasmine he loves her but is a “street rat.”

8. Man vs Man
An external conflict where two characters are against each other.
Involves a mental or physical struggle.
In The Lion King, Simba and Scar are struggle for dominance and over who is the rightful king of Pride Rock.

9. Man vs Society
An external conflict between a character and the community they live in.
Usually a character’s firm beliefs are against norms that society as a whole endorses.
In Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Newt’s interest in magical creatures are at odds with the rest of the wizarding world’s.

10. Man vs Nature
An external conflict positioning characters against an animal or force of nature.
Common examples: man vs. storms, natural disasters, dangerous animals, etc.
In Jurassic Park, the characters are forced to fight for their lives against several hungry dinosaurs.

11. Man vs Supernatural
An external conflict where characters are positioned against something from the supernatural world.
Common supernatural conflicts include ghosts, vampires, werewolves.
In “Supernatural,” Sam and Dean must try to figure out what the supernatural force is that killed their mother and now Sam’s girlfriend.
