1 Personal Development It’s all about personal development and the legacy you can give back to Scouting and Guiding How Unit members can achieve their UK Contingent Personal Development award

2 Personal Development for Unit Members
Every young people will be asked to: Set themselves six personal goals, one of which must be achieved after the Jamboree They can be a mixture of short and long term goals, that can be achieved individually or in groups Provide evidence of the skill or behaviour learned and discuss this with an appropriate person, who will sign off the achievement Submit an overview of the evidence on the electronic form by the 31st October 2019

3 Personal Development for Unit Members
Examples of evidence could be: Photographs, a blog, a vlog, a reflection, achievement of a badge or award, a witness testimony, snapshot (s) of a social media post (s), demonstration of a skill or any other imaginative way. Evidence can be individually tailored to meet the young person’s ability. Validators should be flexible and encourage the young person to be able to articulate how they feel they have been successful. The evidence that a goal has been achieved can be validated by any of the following people: An activity instructor A member of the Unit leadership team A member of IST Their home Section Leader(s) Any other person agreed with a unit leader

4 Personal Development for Unit Members
It’s the young person’s choice which goals they set Use the Unit forum to decide if there are some shared gaols that could be undertaken as a Unit (for example a fitness challenge or first aid skills) Use the existing badge scheme and help show how Unit members can progress towards the higher awards Link to the five programme objectives – physical, intellectual, emotional, social & spiritual development

5 Personal Development for Unit Members
Unit leaders should: Encourage Unit members to set goals and save the evidence to show how they have been achieved Use Unit forums to allow the Unit members to agree any shared goals Check progress regularly Work with the local IST who can support personal development in Units Signpost Unit members to opportunities Communicate the personal development information to parents & guardians and to the home Scout & Explorer Scout leaders so that they understand and can also offer support Model positive personal development themselves – share your own goals, where appropriate, with Unit members Celebrate success throughout the journey – please tweet using #UK24WSJPD Consider incorporating the presentation of the awards at a Unit reunion
