Rehabilitation Nursing, 35(2), WHY IT MATTERS Targeting Excellence in Patient Communication on CICU: The Joint Commission has identified communication failures during shift reports as a leading cause of sentinel events in the United States. Bedside reporting reassures patients that the nursing staff works as a team, and patients witness a safe, professional transfer of responsibilities. Cardiac Intermediate Care Unit An initiative was launched on CICU on July 5th 2011 Handoff report at change of shift between RN’s is to be done at patient’s bedside.
