6 National Curricula Separate for basic and secondary school.
The transversal key competences are referred to as general competences which are considered to be essential for a pupil to become a well-rounded human being and a good citizen. 8 general competencies: value and culture; social and civic; self-management; learning to learn; communication; math, technology and science; digital competence; entrepreneurship.

7 Foreign language learning in Estonia
Basic school (Forms 1-9) At least two foreign languages must be learnt the first (A) foreign language (English, Russian, German, French) the second (B) foreign language (English, Russian, German, French or any other foreign language depending on students’ interests and the alternatives provided by the school) Upper secondary school (Forms 10-12) Students enrol in the courses according to their language levels (B1 and B2 language courses). By the time of graduation, students should have achieved CEFR B-level in at least two foreign languages. Finnish, Hebrew, Chinese, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Greek, Latin, Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or Swahili

Primary education: Stage 1 – Forms 1-3 Stage 2 – Forms – standardized test (last in 2012) Lower secondary (basic) education: Stage 3 – Forms 7-9 – national examination (Year 9 exam) (not compulsory) Upper secondary education: Stage 4 – Forms – national examination (Year 12 exam) (compulsory)

12 26 – 28 Feb 2013 (Tallinn) The format of the national exams in English was changed and we received consultation and training from Jose and Gabor. 20 – 22 April 2016 (Tallinn) Constructing valid language tests and examinations based on the CEFR by Jose and Gabor. 20 – 21 March 2017 (Vilnius) 10 – 12 April 2017 (Riga) The aim of the training is to encourage and develop dialogue/discussion between the Baltic States and Poland. 20 – 21 April 2017 (Tallinn) Supporting Multilingual Classrooms by Merce Bernaus and Brigitte Gerber.
