WHAT IS BUYBACK? Share buy back refer to the repurchasing of shares of stock by the company that issued them. It occurs when the company purchases the share from the shareholders at the market value per share The company re-absorbs that portion of its ownership that was previously distributed among public and private investors. The main aim of shares repurchase might be to reduce the number of shares in circulation in order to improve the share price. Wipro announced larger than expected share buyback of 11,000 crore at a high premium of 24%

REASONS FOR BUYBACK Buying back of shares is a way to pay off the investors and reduce the overall cost of capital When the stock is undervalued, the issuing company repurchases some of its shares at this reduced price and then re-issues them once the market has corrected, thereby increasing its equity capital without issuing any additional shares Buying back stock can also be an easy way to make a business look more attractive to investors. This decision mirrors a trend followed by other domestic IT companies to keep investors faith in the stock due to challenges in the business, pricing pressures and protectionist policies by US president.
