1 Muon DPG 2012 Camilo Carrillo (INFN Napoli) Tim Cox (UC Davis)
Mario Pelliccioni (INFN Torino) for Muon IB, CMS Week, CERN, 28-Feb-2012

2 Outline Common issues DPG Status CSC DT RPC Conclusions

3 Common Issues We went through CMS DQM & AlCaDB reviews in January, without trouble. - DQM review encompassed Data Certification too. - AlCaDB review encompassed general Database usage & ‘Calibration’ conditions data for offline (DT/CSC), RPCMonitor Stream (RPC). Muon DPG Paper ongoing, meeting with ARC this week. 2012 MWGR, first results good sync among our Muon Detectors. A lot of software changes were made, (SLC5, CMSSW_5_X_X). From DPG side everything is fine. DT vs RPC DT vs CSC CSC vs RPC

4 CSC DPG 2012 STATUS Updating Bad Chambers (used in Simulation) and Bad Channels (used in Rechit-building) conditions data files, ready for 2012 Sim & Reco. New DQM plot to monitor L1A mismatches within CSC electronics, for diagnosis of the r/o efficiency problem uncovered at high L1A rates in CSC readout experts have made great progress towards curing this problem. Starting to investigate CSC data rates (via LCT multiplicities) as function of trigger. Measured LCT and Segment efficiencies in 2011 data using ZMM Tag & Probe, confirms inefficiency in CSC r/o for L1A rates > ~70kHz, but not in LCTs. Release Validation continues smoothly as CMSSW is developed for 2012. Reviewed Data Certification workflows and integration with CSC DQM Shifts. - Intend to use Run Registry 3 to feed CSC expert shifter comments into Data Certification. MWGR runs show CSC system and entire online to offline chain is working fine after all hardware upgrades and CMSSW version upgrades over winter shutdown. - Online switched to SLC5 - Offline switched to CMSSW_5_X - CSC rechit container members simplified. - Gas-gain corrections applied in order to supply an ‘energy loss’ in rechit. - Anode zero suppression operational online (firmware) & offline (Raw data Unpacker).

5 CSC rechit global positions
Run B=0 CSC+RPC Cosmics Trigger [MWGR 15 Feb 2012] in Offline DQM Standard asymmetry -z > +z for cosmics due to shaft, & top > bottom

6 CSC rechit global positions
Run B=0 CSC+DT+RPC bottom-only Cosmics Trigger [MWGR 23/24 Feb 2012] in Offline DQM Standard asymmetry -z > +z for cosmics, due to shaft & bottom > top due to trigger - All looks good and confirms CSC system is operating ~normally after shutdown.

8 DT DPG 2011 Status Studies on DT performance as a function of luminosity show our trigger/local reco efficiency is unaffected by different beam conditions For the 2012 data taking, we added in our DQM the monitoring of our calibration constants (time pedestals and drift velocity). This will allow to reduce latency between changes in conditions and a new calibration. Added a delta-rays rejection algorithm into our local reconstruction code. Delta-rays always arrive earlier to the wire → a χ2 cut improves the temporal and spacial resolution We also checked with the last part of 2011 data that our MC conditions still reproduce well our resolution in data DTLT efficiency Local reconstruction efficiency Background rates (single hit within a layer) Increased linearly with luminosity in 2011. Of course, still much below our TDR studies MB4

9 DT DPG Status 2012 cosmics Using MWGR2 cosmics, detector seems in good shape Number of hits per segment for horizontal layers similar to collision muons Local reconstruction efficiency Average BX expected for bottom triggering

10 RPC DPG 2012 Status RPCMonitor Dedicated HLT Stream for RPCDPG Studies. HV Scan 2011 Successfull all the Working Point for every Chamber are known. Automatic High Voltage correction due to pressure changes in place and working (PVSS). The correlation with pressure is gone Runs without automatic pressure correction, Runs with automatic pressure correction. With Pressure correction Without Pressure correction April 2011 October 2011

11 RPC Monitor Stream Detailed efficiency Maps
Efficiency resolution 1cm^2. Tool to establish correlations between efficiency and gas leaks, and other problems. Chambers off are represented in white. Blue and yellow lines are lower efficiency regions due to masked/dead strips. The joints in between double gaps can be seen in yellow as well. Little squares in the corners are just ROOT legends, not an inefficient region.

12 RPC DPG other detector Parameters
Apart from the Event (Reco RPC Hits), other parameters are monitored Run By Run by shifters at CMS Center. Like Temperature, Current and Background. DQM, WBM, Noise tool, and Efficiency offline. For 2012 HV Scan 2012 to be performed with early LHC data. RPCMonitor Stream is being tuned. Upgrade for the efficiency tool is ongoing (segment extrapolation with associated STA muons) Intrinsic Noise Rate Background Noise Tool Current Temperature WBM WBM

13 Relative Efficiency for muon identification with and without rpc hits
1313 Ratio vs. Eta Ratio vs. pT CMS Preliminary CMS Preliminary ε(globalMuonNoRPC) ε(globalMuonRPC) R = Muon RPC STA object under construction.

14 Conclusions MWGR everything is operating smoothly
In 2011 Muon DPG collaboration increased (Muon DPG Paper, Muon DPG meetings on demand) Each group has specific holes in manpower for core tasks DT Calibration CSC Prompt Feedback We lack commitment for several day to day tasks so that we can count on timely support when necessary.
