Over the next six years, the University of Gothenburg will invest a total of 300 million SEK in interdisciplinary research on global societal challenges. The campaign is called UGOT Challenges, which stands for the University of Gothenburg Centres for Global Societal Challenges.

The Swedish Mariculture Research Centre
The main goal of SWEMARC is to increase the marine aquaculture in an environmentally friendly way through interdisciplinary and community engaging research. Development of sustainable marine aquaculture is not limited to biology and technology, but must include economic, legal and societal responsibility. It is also essential to increase public awareness of sustainable mariculture and the health benefits of seafood. Within SWEMARC, we have therefore gathered leading research groups in social, economic, legal, oceanographic, biology and design research.
Centre for Future Chemical Risk Assessment and Management Strategies
Will work towards defining safe limits for chemical contaminants that protect ecosystem services to the combined effects of chemical emissions and exposure.
Will develop instruments for a fair distribution of the available emission space.
Will examine how flexible and scientifically based management of chemicals can be established in the middle- and low-income countries.
