2 BACKGROUNDS and AIM Smoking habits is also identified as a significant public health problem in our country According to 2008 Global Adult Tobacco Survey of Turkey, daily tobacco consumption is 21.7% in the age group The use of all tobacco products in enclosed areas has been banned at all country-side with the aim of "Smokeless airspace"

3 BACKGROUNDS and AIM In this study, we aim to determine the prevalence of smoking in university students six years later after this law

4 METHODS This was a descriptive cross-sectional study among students of the University of Celal Bayar The prevalence of tobacco consumption among Turkish univeristy students in previous studies within the range of %26.5 – 51.7 The calculated minimum sample size using the formula was 2162 n = z2pq/d2 0.5 frequency is used for situations where prevalence was based more

5 METHODS The research data was collected by questionnaires created by researchers after obtaining verbal consent with students face to face interview.

6 RESULTS 2170 students participated in the study.
53.4% of the students were female, 23.6% of students (n = 518) were current smokers, 68.8% of students (n = 1493) said that they never smoked 7.3% of them quit smoking

7 RESULTS When we look at the current smoking,
men were significantly more smokers than female students (p<0.001) Significant differences in smoking status were observed according to the location (With Family, Dorm, With Friends, Alone) of the students The interesting note here is that the girls in the dormitory significantly higher smoking rate (p<0.001).

9 RESULTS There are significant differences between classes p=0002 (there is a linear relationship) class increases, increasing the rate of smoking.

10 RESULTS Current smoking rate in the Faculty of Engineering students (33.2%) was highest The lowest was at the students of vocational school of health and medical students Based on Fagerstrom Tolerance Test, 8.9% of students identified as addicts.

11 RESULTS Addiction was detected higher at male students and which were rest with friends. We found that self-declared addiction according to FTND scores was 193/518 (%37.2) at smoking students

13 CONCLUSION The most important result from this study is the circle of friends is that it is an important factor in how to start smoking Therefore, in addition to legislative measures to prevent the initiation of smoking It must be multi-faceted continuing education on the hazards of smoking in university students.
