1 CSC Organization in 2013 Jay Hauser To be updated at

2 Front-end electronics and patch panel plan, schedule, milestones
First and foremost: Congratulations – your hard work on CSC has paid off! Secondly: “Upgrades can be fatal” – don’t screw it up in LS1!

3 Recall: Much Work Ahead
ME4/2 new chambers, ME1/1 refurbishment, other repairs 2013 timeline, as of 26-Nov-2012

4 Current CSC organigram (2012)
9/10/2018 Current CSC organigram (2012) 26-Feb-2012 CMS Spokesperson Muon Institution Board CSC Project Manager Jay Hauser Deputy Tim Cox Resource Manager Dick Loveless CSC Operations Misha Ignatenko Deputy Evaldas Juska CSC DPG (Detector Perf.) Tim Cox Deputy Vladimir Paltchik CSC Upgrades Dick Loveless Hardware Offline software Offline software ME4/2 procurement ME4/2 procurement Online software Detector data analysis ME4/2 factory Pt. 5 operations Data validation ME1/1 repair Pt. 5 integ./install.

5 CSC organigram 2013 Proposed 11-Dec-2012: CMS Spokesperson
9/10/2018 Proposed 11-Dec-2012: CMS Spokesperson Muon Institution Board CSC Project Manager J. Hauser, deputy D. Loveless Resource Manager D. Loveless Procurement Ops & Commissioning M. Ignatenko, deputy E. Juska DPG (Detector Performance) T. Cox, deputy V. Paltchik Integ., Install., Gas, Cooling A. Lanaro Online Systems F. Geurts, R. Clare LV, HV, Crates & Racks P. Levtchenko ME4/2 Factory A. Lanaro, deputy X. Yang ME1/1 Refurbishment, Repair V. Karjavin ME1/1 Electronics D. Wood New working groups Existing groups

6 Notes on Existing Groups
Ops  Operations & Commissioning For commissioning ME4/2, ME1/1, and everything underground Online Software  Online Systems To reflect support for computers, network, etc. Includes STEP testing at all sites (Karoly Banicz) DPG to concentrate more on Post-upgrade simulation Validation with cosmic rays Fundamental improvements and things needed for high Lumi

7 DPG work in LS1 (mostly from Tim)
Focus on Post-upgrade simulation DCFEB – noise is lower Reverse “packer” to make (new format) raw data out of DIGIs Cosmic ray analysis (as part of commissioning). Space and especially time distributions are radically different. Efficiencies are harder to measure. High luminosity changes needed No accounting for any background (neutrons, etc.) in rechit, segment building Not optimized for muons that radiate Trigger LCT patterns have never been optimized Need to retain expertise e.g. in data certification, conditions data handling, etc. (group responsibilities) Plenty of room for ideas - you can do anything you want!

8 Mandates of new groups (I)
Integration, Installation, Gas, and Cooling (Lanaro): For ALL the underground work Central point of contact for CSC and TC LV, HV, cables and racks (Levtchenko) Important: ME1/1 LV not reliable thus far, need increased current for new electronics, also support new test installations Procurement: a small group under Resource Manager Includes Loveless, Karjavin, Jiang Issues are at the interfaces - what to buy and who will buy, need to make decisions quickly

9 Mandates of new groups (II)
ME1/1 Refurbishment and Repair, consists of 3 sub-groups: ME1/1 dismounting, installation, and cabling Led by Alexandre Kurenkov Yuri Ershov, Nikolai Ulianov, and 4 technicians ME1/1 electronics refurbishment and testing Led by Victor Perelygin Alexandre Golunov, Alexandre Makhankin (software) Alexey Kamenev, Alexandre Kurenkov, Nikolai Evdokimov, Vladimir Tchehovsky, Sergei Vasilev ME1/1 HV trip repair Led by V. Karjavin Victor Perelygin, Alexandre Kurenkov, Alexandre Skripnik, Marina Zaitseva, Svetlana Kilchakovskaya, Alexei Koliaskin

10 Conclusions The scope of our LS1 upgrade work requires focus
The new structure for 2013 is designed to assist that focus Next step is for group leaders to assemble their teams, define their schedules, work out conflicts Many have already done this We need to assemble a list of open tasks for each group NB expect some flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances
