1 SHORT RANGE WIRELESS POWER TRANSMISSION
Guided by: Mr.S.Malaisamy, M.E. Presented by: ANIRUDH PRASAD.A.M JEGAN NATHAN.S MATHAN.M

2 ABSTRACT Wireless power transmission is a technique of transmitting power without wires. The principle of operation of this technique is resonant electromagnetic induction. Magnetic induction occurs when two objects exchange energy through their varying or oscillating magnetic fields. Resonant induction occurs when the natural frequencies of the two objects are approximately the same. Two resonant objects of the same resonant frequency tend to exchange energy efficiently, while interacting weakly with extraneous off-resonant objects. The power sources and capture devices are specially designed magnetic resonators that efficiently transfer power over some distances via the magnetic near-field. . By proper designing of circuit elements, the power is transferred to the load via air as the medium. Instead of irradiating the environment, it fills the space around it with a non-Radiative magnetic field oscillating at some MHz frequencies .

3 History of Wireless Power:
In 1899, Sir Nikola Tesla Proposed a method of Wireless Power Transmission. As it is in Radiative mode, most of the Power was wasted and has less efficiency. The efficient midrange power transfer concept is Witricity. In this model source and load are in Magnetic resonance so there is less power loss.

4 Need of Wireless Power:
Now a days there is a Rapid development of autonomous electronics like Laptops, Cell-phones, House-hold robots and all those devices typically rely on chemical energy storage(Battery) As they are becoming daily needs to present generation, Wireless energy transfer would be useful for many applications as above and they need midrange energy. Also this is suited for many of the applications.

5 Basic Principle: The basic definition of wireless energy transfer is a process that takes place in any type of system in which electrical current is conveyed from a power source to an electrical load without using wires to interconnect the source and load. The principle behind this technique is resonant electromagnetic induction.

6 Resonant Electromagnetic Induction
It is a type of magnetic coupling occurs when two objects exchange energy through their varying or oscillating magnetic fields. Resonant electromagnetic induction occurs when the natural frequencies of the two objects are approximately the same. Magnetic coupling occurs when the magnetic field of one object interacts with a second object and induces an electric current in or on that object. In this way, electric energy can be transferred from a power source to a powered device.

7 Resonant Electromagnetic Induction

8 EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: Our experimental scheme consists of two Self-resonant coils. One coil (source coil) is coupled inductively to an oscillating circuit; the other (device coil) is coupled inductively to a resistive load. Self-resonant coils rely on the interplay between distributed inductance and distributed capacitance to achieve resonance

11 EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS Input Voltage = 12V Input Current = 1.5A
Output Voltage =8V Output Current = 1.2A Input Power =18W Output Power =9.6WW Overall Efficiency =55% for a distance of 30cm. Frequency =0.467Mhz

12 ADVANTAGES: Unaffected by the day night cycle, weather or seasons.
This is an eco friendly system. It is boon for the devices which uses midrange power. It’s an shock less too.

13 APPLICATIONS OF WIRELESS ELECTRICITY
Automatic wireless charging of mobile electronics (phones, laptops, game controllers, etc.) in home, car, office, Wi-Fi hotspots … while devices are in use and mobile. Direct wireless power and communication interconnections across rotating and moving “joints” (robots, packaging machinery, assembly machinery, machine tools) … eliminating costly and failure-prone wiring. Automatic wireless charging for existing electric vehicle classes: golf carts, industrial vehicles. Direct wireless power interconnections and automatic wireless charging for implantable medical devices (ventricular assist devices, pacemaker, defibrillator, etc.). Can be used in bus to drive the load by means of a dc battery

14 CONCLUSION Wireless Electricity concept is a boon for devices which uses midrange energy. The proposed mechanism is promising for many modern applications . In macroscopic world this scheme could potentially be used to deliver power to robots and computers in a factory room , or in electric train.
