2. why? Moldovan society has a lot of socioeconomic problems.
Syrian refugee crisis demonstrated inability to integrate the “others” into moldovan society and inability to create own perception on the problem (moldovans imported stereotypes from Western and Russian Mass-Media).
The project will address civic engagement problem.

3. Jews were the first...
Stereotypes about Jewish population are the oldest among moldovans. They were connected mostly with economical problems in the beginning of XX century. (anti- jewish riots in 1903 and 1905)
During Soviet period stereotypes had mostly political narratives.
Situation is changed after 1991 mainly because Jewish population left Moldova.

4. ...Romas were after...
Stereotypes and Discrimination against Romas are the strongest in RM. They are not accepted in Moldovan society (schools, hospitals and etc.).
Word Romas were artificially created and used nowadays, because “gypsies” has a strongly negative connotation.

5. ...and Syrians can be the next one
Stereotypes about Syrians were mostly imported from EU and Russian Mass- Media. Moldovans don’t have own stereotypes about Syrians, because they do not know them.
We are facing the appearance of a new discriminated group.

6. How can we respond?
This movie is not about Syria and Syrians. This movie is about Moldova and Moldovans.

Structure of the movie.

7. Introduction into the movie:
Moldova is famous by its hospitality. Due to economic instability about one million Moldavians leave their home to find a proper place to live and work. They are looking for a new home and hope that they will be accepted in Italy, Russia and etc.
Recently Moldova became a new home for several hundreds refugees from all over the world. The aim of this movie is to show the ability of Moldavians to integrate and to accept those who are seeking for a new home.
More than 2 years passed since Moldova accepted few hundreds Syrian refugees, the movie will show the ability of moldovan people accept and integrate new ethnicities into society.

8. Information about Syrians in Moldova: (main stereotypes)
Main Prejudice about immigrants and particularly about Syrian refugees:
Interviews with ordinary people from a street will show that refugees perceived mostly negative. Main myths: “they are taking our jobs”, “they are rapers” and etc.
Political insinuations around refugees, especially during elections.
Origins of all stereotypes came from EU countries and/or Russian Mass-Media.

9. Who are those people? Interviews with Government representatives.
The portrait of Syrian refugee in Moldova.
What is their background and history?
How the gov officials are choosing whom to give asylum and whom not?
This section will provide following information: (1) Syrian refugees are coming to Moldova because they graduate Moldovan universities; one of the member of their family is from Moldova. (2) Refugees do know language (Romanian or Russian); (3) Overall background and occupation.

10. How does Moldovan Government support their integration into Moldovan society?
Interviews with „AVE COPIII” - organization which provides help to refugees and their families.
These interviews will help to find a main problems which refugee face in communication with governments and Moldovan society. + filming in the center

11. Interviews Interviews with Syrian refugees..
Syrians and business in Moldova. This “chapter” will show the possibilities for self realization of immigrants, which provide Moldova. It will cover two sides: 1 - is how Moldovan government helping immigrant to open the business and/or to find a job. 2 - do the immigrants have any will to work and open a business in Moldova.
Family stories. How is there life in Moldova? What are the relations with neighbours? Is there positive or negative image of Syrians in molodvan mass media? How the process of integration into moldovan society is going?

Conclusions will be based on the information received.
