1 A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words

2 Writing Task #1 Take out and study your photograph. Divide a piece of your notebook paper into two columns. Head the left side “25 observations about the photograph.” Head the right side “My thoughts as I examine this photograph.” You have 5 minutes from the time class starts so each second counts!

3 Writing Task #2 (Description)
Convert the picture into a word portrait. Use vivid descriptions to bring this photograph to life.

4 Writing Task #3 (Expository)
Explain why you selected this particular photograph.

5 Writing Task #4 (Narrative)
Tell the story of the occasion during which the picture was taken, or tell a story about yourself that occurred within a year of the time the photograph was taken.

6 Writing Task #5 (Persuasive)
You do not own the photograph. Your friend or family member in Michigan does. For what seems like forever, you have been asking him/her to make you a duplicate. Write a letter to convince the owner of your picture to send you a copy.

7 Writing Task #6 (Dialogue)
Create a conversation between the “you” in the photograph and You sitting here looking at the picture, You and the photographer, or You and someone else in the picture

8 Homework! Choose one of your quick-writes and develop it into a piece of writing. You may plunder details from anything you have written on your paper.
