What kind of business is this? How does it make money? On what kind of land is it located? What are some reasons these people might have set up their business in this location? Is a place like this necessary for them to make a profit? Can you tell what the tall tower in the center is? Why is it there? Do you think it is necessary? Bell Work

Megalopolis- concentration of urban areas Political and financial center Most industrialized

4 Northeast “Home of America’s 1st Cities
1st industries developed here near rivers. Rivers served 2 purposes Power- moving water Transportation method for moving goods produced Late 1900s manufacturing declined and left this area to be called the “Rust Belt” because of all the old factories that sit rotting.

Ex. Greek, Irish, and Italian neighborhoods Most new immigrants are coming from Latin America and Asia

Slightly less populated that NE Cities linked by Miss. River and Great Lakes

One of world most productive farming regions Why? Nearly all land is arable- fit for farming Some areas specialize in crops Examples Corn Belt- Nebraska to Ohio Diary Belt- Wisconsin, Minnesota and Michigan
