Heaven, our home Based on a sermon by Brett Hogland
2
The word “HOME” Where we belong Changes over time
Security, warmth, safety, love, happiness, contentment Changes over time People grow up People pass away Some have it destroyed by sin
3
Heaven, the home of the saved
1 Peter 1:3-5 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, 5 who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. A home with no problems or dysfunction. Cannot be destroyed Never changes
4

We don’t belong here Philippians 3:20
For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, We don’t fit in. John 15:18-19, 17:14, John 3:19-20, Matthew 5:14- 16, Psalm 119:105, 1 Peter 4:1-4 The light exposes evil and illuminates the path John 17:14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

We don’t belong here If we try to fit in, we will lose our home.
1 John 2:15-17, 1 Corinthians 5:9-10 We are sojourners and pilgrims 1 Peter 2:11 Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul, Hebrews 13:14 For here we have no continuing city, but we seek the one to come. A ship belongs in the sea, but if the sea gets in the ship, you’ve got problems.

Heaven, our home Because we don’t belong here. Where our heart is
9
Where our heart is Matthew 6:19-20 Colossians 3:1-3
We must desire something better than what we have here. The Israelites desired to go back to Egypt, Exodus 16:3 Hebrews 10:35-39 Exodus 16:3 And the children of Israel said to them, “Oh, that we had died by the hand of the Lord in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the pots of meat and when we ate bread to the full! For you have brought us out into this wilderness to kill this whole assembly with hunger.” That’s the home they knew.
