MEETING OF 13 SEPTEMBER 2007

Our Mission Review films Go over some game situations

Game Situation #1 #1. A A-10. A1 throws a legal forward pass, untouched by B, toward A-30. B3 commits A-30 and intercepts pass. B3 is running with the when official throws flag for DPI and then blows whistle. Ruling: IW, since DPI is a live ball foul. We always hope we get a flag when there is an IW, since the flag trumps the IW. So, in this case, we would enforce the DPI, A A Note

Game Situation#2 A B Ball carrier A1 runs and is forced out of B-11. While A1 is out of bounds, B2 commits a late hit on A1. Ruling: A failed to make line to gain. Change of possession. B B-5 ½. The late hit did not occur during the down E has a very similar situation and a great explanation in the comment.

Game Situation #3 Score A-7, B-14, less than 10 seconds to go in the game. A B-1 foot line with 5 seconds left in the game. A lines up and is ready to snap the ball with 2 seconds left, but linebacker B1 drops to the ground in front of the ball, overcome with cramps. Officials signal timeout with about 2 seconds left, but clock runs down to 0:00. Ruling: We put time back on the clock, but decided to start on the ready because it was clear that B1 truly had an injury. Referee warned quarterback that he would first back out the umpire, and then blow his whistle. Quarterback was told not to snap the ball until the whistle was blown.

Game Situation#4 K-40. Ball is on tee when a gust of wind blows it off of the tee, but instead of rolling, it is not moving at all within a very short time. As officials are ready to blow it dead, kicker runs up to the ball and kicks it. Ruling: By , a place kick is a legal kick made while the ball is in a fixed position on the ground or on a kicking tee…The ball may also be held in position on the ground or on a kicking tee by a place-kick holder who shall be a teammate of the kicker…So, the question is: Is a motionless ball in a fixed position? I would have to say yes.
