The Bennion Center fosters lifelong service and civic participation by engaging the University with the greater community in action, change and learning.
Create an impact in the community (community impact & leverage the resources of students and higher ed to the community issue. Also, how can they add their unique gifts/skills to your organization)
Allow students the opportunity for growth/development (student learning, deeply engaged experiences, students first and creating engaged citizens)

4. What Are Civic Competencies
What Are Civic Competencies? Civic competencies are a set of defined behaviors, practices, and cognitive abilities that enable the individual to be an effective influencer in positive community change.
Civic Skills: Abilities developed and utilized to influence positive community change.
Civic Awareness: Cognizance of interconnectedness among individuals, society, and systems.
Civic Habits: Regular behavior related to community engagement.
Civic Values: Expressed desires and beliefs related to social responsibility.

8. Roles and Responsibilities of a Community Partner
Provide a meaningful volunteer experience for Program Director(s) and other volunteers.
Create a safe and welcoming environment.
Comply with all risk reduction/management strategies and meet liability standards.
Provide training as necessary.
Ensure volunteer responsibilities are reasonable in regard to time, cost and capabilities.

Identify a full-time staff person to serve as the program liaison and primary contact.
