Fish range from the huge 52 feet (the size of a whale shark), to the tiny .3 inches (the size of a stout infant fish).
Fish can obtain food in different ways.

Some fish don't take care of their young. Those are the fish that lay hundreds to millions of eggs, increasing the chances that a few offspring will survive.
Fish that take care of their young, however, lay fewer eggs. This would show that the most of the offspring will survive with the parents.
