2 Collecting and Packaging Physical Evidence
Physical evidence must be handled and processed in a way that prevents any change from taking place between the time it is removed from the crime scene and the time it is received by the crime laboratory.

Continuity of possession, or the chain of custody, must be established whenever evidence is presented in court as an exhibit. This means that every person who handled or examined the evidence must be accounted for. A minimum record would show the collector’s initials, location of the evidence, and date of collection.

8 All of the individuals involved in the collection, handling and transportation of the evidence may be requested to testify in court.
