21 The cornerstone of international trade is the availability of common standards The best way to achieve this is through the use of an international standards process involving all interested parties with international standards being the end product This is the process we use in IEC in the development of our TC 31 standards These internation standards can then also provide the basis for international certification. 21

23 All standards currently used in IECEx Certified Equipment Scheme are TC 31 electrical standards For the same scheme ISO/IEC 80079-34 is now applied for manufacturers For IECEx Certified Service Facilities Scheme the standard used is IEC 60079-19 Equipment repair, overhaul and reclamation TC 31 standards also used for the new IECEX personnel competencies scheme Chair of TC 31 is a member of the IECEx management committee ExMC 23

24 The standards produced by IEC Committee TC 31 provide the basis to have equipment complying with appropriate requirements to provide confidence in: Enhancing safety; Ensuring business continuity; and Facilitating international markets TC 31 standards form basis for IECEx System 24
