5 The Early Years Foundation Stage
The EYFS document combines Early Years and Foundation Stage. This creates a national curriculum for children aged 5 and under. The EYFS Curriculum is divided into seven areas of learning. All areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. There are three prime areas that are particularly crucial for igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, and for building their capacity to learn, form relationships and thrive. We also support children in four specific areas, through which the three prime areas are strengthened and applied.

6 Areas of Learning The prime areas are: Communication and Language
Physical Development Personal Social and Emotional Development The specific areas are: Literacy Mathematics Understanding of the world Expressive Art and Design

7 Ways of Learning In the EYFS children learn by: Playing and Exploring
Being Active Creative and Critical Thinking Learning takes place both indoors and outdoors. All the curriculum areas are developed through planned, purposeful play, with a balance of adult led and child initiated activities. Children’s existing skills and interests are built upon in order to help them learn. Activities are pitched at the children’s levels of development enabling them to learn and succeed at a rate suitable to each individual.

8 Inclusion At Templewood we value the individuality of all of our children. We are committed to giving all of our children every opportunity to achieve the highest of standards. We do this by taking account of pupils’ varied life experiences and needs. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum and have high expectations for all children. The achievements, attitudes and well-being of all our children matter. At our school we ensure that this school promotes the individuality of all our children, irrespective of ethnicity, attainment, age, disability, gender or background.

9 Templewood School Association
We have a fantastic PTA, which organises a wide range of social events throughout the year to raise essential funds for the school. These include events like a Wild Food Night, Christmas Party, Summer Party, Film Night and Quiz Night. Funds have been used to buy many different resources, from computers, library books and hall staging to netball kit, We are always delighted to welcome new people, and there are lots of parents offering a little of their time to make the events a great success. Meetings take place at the school, during the evening, a few times a year, so do look in the newsletter or speak to Amanda at school We look forward to seeing you at future events.
