6. Structure and style Is the structure deliberate?
What might it represent?
The broken lines and uneven stanzas may represent the irregularities of the ‘crooked’ buildings she describes and how they are squeezed into the small spaces. This could also link to chaos and disorganisation within the living space she describes.
The broken lines are an example of enjambment- the continuation of a sentence over a line-break.
Why is this an effective technique?
