16 Past simple VS Past continuous

17 What were you doing at eight o´clock? I was making dinner P.C
we use the past simple to talk about an action in the past that has finished we use the past continuous when an action takes place over a period of time in the past. Compare: I made dinner last night. I started at seven o´clock and finished at half past eight. P.S. What were you doing at eight o´clock? I was making dinner P.C Sam and I talked for an hour. P.S While we were talking, Jane was trying to get our attention. P.C. we use P.S. and P.C. in the same sentence to describe an action that interrupted another action which was taking place in the past. We can combine the PS and PC with when and while.
