3. Rationale To bridge the gap between Primary to Post Primary
To enhance links in the community by collaborating with our local Primary school
To promote the German language

4. Preparation
The initiative was open to all TY German students in the form of a competition
Each applicant had to submit a short essay outlining why they wished to participate in the programme
Each applicant had to submit a sample lesson plan and ideas for the programme
Applicants were chosen based on the above and based on their ability to work in a team and show commitment to the programme
The seven students met with me during long lunch on a Wednesday to plan lessons, discuss strategies etc.

Discussed different methods of teaching and learning

12. TY Students’ Reflection
It has also helped me gain confidence in my public speaking abilities.
It has given me an insight into what it entails to be a primary school teacher and I now know this is the career I want to pursue after school.
It was rewarding to see how much the students improved and learned over the 6 weeks .
I feel as a group we handled the class very well which has also improved our teamwork skills as we had to work as one to ensure the lesson ran smoothly.
TY Students’ Reflection
It was a very different way of learning rather than learning from books. I can see the real life applications for the skills I have learned .
II loved getting to get to know each pupil on a personal level.
