1 PREVENTIONS AND TREATMENTS FOR EBOLA
By: David Gonzalez

2 How to Prevent Contracting The Ebola Virus?
One of the most important thing that one should do to avoid contracting the virus is practice careful hygiene. This means wash hands frequently with soap and water and if possible with a alcohol –based hand sanitizer (Hhs Ebola Overview Template). Another important thing that one should do is to try and avoid any infected person’s blood and their body fluids. These fluids include urine, saliva and vomit. One more thing is to avoid handling needles and other medical equipment that may have come in contact with an infected person (Hhs).

3 How to Prevent Contracting The Ebola Virus? (Cont…)
When traveling to an affected area try your best to avoid hospitals in which Ebola patients are being treated. Keep in mind that the U.S. Embassy or consulate is often able to provide advice on healthcare facilities (Hhs Ebola Overview Template). If you have to travel to an affected area make sure not to come in contact with bats or primates or anything related to them. Lastly, if after your travel to an affected area you begin to develop symptoms that relate to Ebola you have to seek medical care IMMEDIATELY.

4 Where are we with vaccines?
According to an article from TIME, Researchers have developed vaccines and treatments that show promise in fighting Ebola in animals, but is this outbreak a good opportunity to test them in people? Dr. Anthony Fauci, National Institutes of Health immunologist said that he and his research team have been working on a vaccine to prevent Ebola. He also said that this vaccine was completely effective in monkeys and that it would be tested on humans ins September of this year (Park)

5 Where are we with vaccines? (Cont…)
Even though there are several scientists developing vaccines to fight or prevent Ebola there’s not really one good vaccine proven to actually work. Many of those vaccines and drugs do work effectively in monkeys, who have similar symptoms as humans. However, most of these vaccines/drugs haven’t passed even the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) most lenient standards (Park). So for now they are still trying to find the perfect vaccine for the virus.
