Knowledge management best practices? Best practice means that organization try to find out and using best way to make company successful and achieve their goals and objectives. Effective knowledge management makes contributes to innovation and performance. (Jenny, 2005) When a org. can manage their knowledge (how they acquire, they share, they utilize those knowledge) it will lead the org. in sustaining innovation. Whereby innovation is the process of translating an idea or invention into a good or service that creates value or for which customers will pay. Innovation - which new ideas are generated and converted into useful products satisfy the needs and expectations of the customers. It is required in the changing environment to convert knowledge into organizational strength and making it a core competency (Zárraga-Oberty and De Saá-Pérez, 2006).

APPLE INC. Apple Inc is one of the business which is a giant. Apple is not only the largest tech company in the world, but also also the 9th largest company in the world. (Forbes) Knowledge Management is Apple's fundamental core competency, and the reason it is successful in its most profitable (profit making) attribute which is innovation. Due to the ability of Apple to adapt best practice to their business. There is no doubt to say that Apple is the top of innovative companies. Whereby they use and apply all the principles & ideas to create something new of innovation.

KNOWLEDGE SHARING Knowledge Sharing and Business Strategy Basically, Apple Inc. will not share their knowledge to the public easily. Even 90% of the workers have never met with Steve even though they work at the same building. BUT, A small number of groups will be gathering and met with him depends on the place that has been instructed to the group which is known as Top 100. (for knowledge sharing session) Role of Human Networks Apple Inc. have organized an activities with the public. One of it youth program which is consists of ‘Apple Camp and Field Trips for Student and Teachers’ to attract the children become more creative and innovative using an Apple products and also the unforgettable learning experience when they join that program.

Ability to Adapt with Organizational Culture Apple have a unique organizational culture that emphasizes innovation, creativity and expertise employee. Apple Inc. need to be highly selective when they recruit employees as well as on the training session. The employees have expertise with the product that they sell and are willingly to answer any questions regarding an Apple products or services. Apple’s workers must be knowledgeable, accessible as they represent that company’s image. Role of Top Management Steve Jobs has shown good credibility when he has taking a good care towards their workers by not giving them to ride a car himself instead of taking a bus that have been provided by the company for Top 100 to join the meeting. In fact, Fortune, the former apple executive had quote some words said by Steve ‘if he had to recreate the company, these are the 100 people he did bring along.

KNOWLEDGE UTILIZATION Use a recyling product as their resources. An Apple product will be recycled properly in order to avoid a threat to a human health and also to the environment. Also, Apple company had developed a program that involve recycling collection events, like Apple Renew which it give the opportunities to the Apple store for reuse and responsible recycling. Eg : The Apple Renew program provide opportunity to the people to recycle any Apple device at any Apple Store and online. Tell us which device you have, and we’ll email you a prepaid mailing label. Once you’ve deleted your data, ship your device to us, and we’ll handle the rest.

Protecting the forest also protecting the new generation In 2015, Apple and WWF announced a collaboration with a clear goal: to improve the management of forest in China. In fact, last year, over 99 percent of apple product packaging came from paper that was recycled or sourced from sustainably managed forests. Thus, To reduce wood fiber in Apple product, they try to make the packaging smaller than a normal one. Apple says the company is continually looking for ways to make its packaging smaller, creating technologies that use paper more efficiently, and using recycled paper whenever possible. Safer Materials. Apple started Full Material Disclosure program to identify the substances that is used In the product whether it is safe or not. Apple would make a new improvement since they has identify some toxins in their product such as beryllium in the copper alloys, display glass is free from arsenic. It will be done by reduce, remove or develop new material that are safer)

OUTCOME OF APPLE’S KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT Great Ideas and Innovation Apple’s ability to create has increase rapidly. Great ideas and innovation had turned into many new products. Apple Inc. creates their own design of smart phones and tablets and at the same time creates their own operating software. For example, Apple introduce new model of iPhone as year goes by with each new products presents new technologies and features. Increase The Number of Sales In this year, the Quarterly earnings of Apple were above expectations and revenue that beat estimates. It marks the end of a very successful financial year for the company. Apple saw revenue of $229.234 billion in fiscal 2017, compared to $215.639 in fiscal 2016. (Apple’s financial year runs from September to September). This is an evidence of how Apple has now become a successful brand and trend

Strengthen Management Strategy Apple assign small groups on critical activities like employing only two engineers to compose the code for converting Apple’s Safari program for the iPad. Beside, there will be direct responsible individuals (DRI). DRI is found in a lesson learned from Steve Jobs. Steve had a habit of making sure someone was responsible for each item on any meeting agenda, so everybody knew who is responsible. DRI is important to avoid any confusion of who is in charge of what,

NIKE INC. Previously known as blue ribbon sports. Nike is the market leader in the sports apparel industry by virtue of its market share, profitability and global reach (Stonehouse et al., 2003). Nike’s sustained global market leadership in the sports apparel industry is based upon its exception knowledge of its customers and their motivations, marketing, design and development of new products, and management of its supply chain (Stonehouse & Minocha, 2008). They have the biggest share of running shoe market in USA (StoneHouse and Minocha, 2008).

KNOWLEDGE SHARING Knowledge sharing depends on the habit and willingness of the knowledge worker to seek out or be receptive to these knowledge sources. Information technology plays an important role in order to make the knowledge transfer go smoothly because of IT will assist the Nike company to connect not just the company that located in that specific area but located in the worldwide. Plus, when there are new knowledge acquired, there will be video conferring will be done and through that the new knowledge can be shared with. (video conferring - telecommunication in the form of a videoconference)

KNOWLEDGE UTILIZATION When the company have the knowledge, that knowledge will be used during making the structure of the shoes Where Nike will combine knowledge of its customers with knowledge of the technology and materials to be used in the manufacture of footwear and sports clothing.

OUTCOME OF NIKE’S KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT 3D printing of prototypes Nike has develop 3-D printing of prototypes for athletic equipment This innovation allows its customer to design their favourite sneaker on website called NIKEiD. Through this website, the customers may design their favourite design and submit it to Nike Company. This website allowed the knowledge sharing between the customer and company The transfer of knowledge occurred when the customers propose their design for their sneakers and at the same time Nike may obtain the pattern and feedback on needs and demands from the customers.
